Duane S. Nickell
is the author of three books: Guidebook for the Scientific Traveler: Visiting Astronomy & Space Exploration Sites Across America, Guidebook for the Scientific Traveler: Visiting Physics & Chemistry Sites Across America, and Scientific Indiana. His fourth book, Scientific Kentucky, will be on bookshelves in the summer of 2022.
Nickell is a retired physics teacher with degrees from DePauw University and the University of Kentucky and holds a doctorate in education from Indiana University. His teaching has been recognized with numerous awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics & Science Teaching, the nation’s highest honor for science teachers. He is a former president of the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers and the Indiana Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers. He is a longtime member of Mensa and enjoys singing baritone in the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. Nickell lives in Indianapolis with his wife Karen and some cats.
